White Out

“Where do you find inspiration?” — I have been asked this question several times already. Like writers, designers suffer a form of “writer’s block” which can be a big problem before they even start.

I would say I have an eclectic sense of style as I draw inspiration from everywhere, oftentimes, at the most unlikely times and places. I take inspiration from everyday people on the streets, buildings, architecture, nature, and so on.

As Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

So when I made the swimsuit (worn as a top) below, I thought of all things white.

Amber Avenue vest, self-made swimsuit/top, Next Jeans shorts, Fashionabelles bracelet

I like creating a high contrast between items in my outfit, but since I have tops and bottoms in shades of white, I wore some of them and went for a crisp, clean and fresh white-on-white look. Did it work?

How about you guys, where do you source your inspiration from?
