Sorry about the lack of blog posts – midterms have just ended and I have finally gotten a chance to breathe!
Just thought I’d share my project for my Pattern, Drafting and Grading 2 class. :) Our topic was menswear, but we were allowed to create a unisex blazer!

Here’s my design. Initially, I wanted to use an earth tone color for the bodice and add piping. But then, I changed my mind when I visited Fabric Warehouse for the reason that I saw a lovely herringbone twill fabric with a metallic print! Hence the title of this blog entry. If you’re curious to know the meaning of herringbone, well, it features a distinctive V-shaped weaving pattern. As for the sleeves, I used leather. :)

AHHH, PATTERNS! Personally, I think that pattern making is hard. It takes a lot of patience and concentration. It’s one aspect of design that I seek to master because good patterns make for good clothes. I realized that making your own patterns is not a talent that you are born with nor a blessed gift, but simply a learned skill.

Pulled an all-nighter for this. I admit, it’s not perfect. Thankfully though, it turned out okay! I swear, I was really rejoicing the instant I finished this project! Hahaha!

An Instagram photo (@tiniglesias) of the final outcome. Hope you guys like it as much as I do! Can’t wait to wear it out!!! :)
